متن کاملIntrinsic dissipation in cantilevers
We consider the effects of a velocity-independent friction force on cantilever damping. It is shown that this dissipation mechanism causes nonlinear effects in the cantilever vibrations. The size of the nonlinear-ity increases with decreasing cantilever velocity. Our analysis makes it possible to understand Stipe's et al. [1] experiments where an amplitude dependence of the cantilever eigenfreq...
متن کاملNanomechanical humidity detection through porous alumina cantilevers
We present here the behavior of the resonance frequency of porous anodic alumina cantilever arrays during water vapor adsorption and emphasize their possible use in the micromechanical sensing of humidity levels at least in the range of 10-22%. The sensitivity of porous anodic aluminium oxide cantilevers (Δf/Δm) and the humidity sensitivity equal about 56 Hz/pg and about 100 Hz/%, respectively....
متن کاملEffects of crustal ohmic dissipation and alignment
We investigate the evolution of pulsars in the (P, Ṗ ) diagram. We first present analytical formulae to follow the evolution of a pulsar using simple exponential models for magnetic field decay and alignment. We then compare these evolutionary tracks with detailed model calculations using ohmic decay of crustal neutron star magnetic fields. We find that, after an initial phase with a small brak...
متن کاملDissipation in nanocrystalline-diamond nanomechanical resonators
We have measured the dissipation and frequency of nanocrystalline-diamond nanomechanical resonators with resonant frequencies between 13.7 MHz and 157.3 MHz, over a temperature range of 1.4–274 K. Using both magnetomotive network analysis and a time-domain ring-down technique, we have found the dissipation in this material to have a temperature dependence roughly following T, with Q'10 at low t...
